Effect of electroless metallization parameters of carbon fibres on Ni-P coatings
Abstract
Deposition of nickel-phosphorous coating (Ni-P)on thecarbonfibresisoneofthewaytoincreasethewettabilityofcarbonfibreswithmeltedaluminium alloys [1]. Before metal deposition the commercial epoxy layer from the carbon fibres surface (sizing) had to be removed to assure the adhesion of the Ni-P coating. In this study carbon fibres were metallized by electroless method. The Ni-P coatings were deposited as the result of the controlled salt reduction, which was catalysed by the metal being deposited. The investigation of the electroless metallization of carbon fibres was performed for one type of Ni-P deposition bath with different concentration of stabilizer. The proposed metallization bath allowed substrate metallization with wide range of deposition rate, coating composition and thickness [2]. In this work the effect of the presence of stabilizer CH4N2S on improving the metallization process was investigated.
