Characterization of Thermoplastic Elastomers Based Composites Doped with Carbon Black
Abstract
Elastomeric composites doped with 1, 3, 4 and 5wt. % of carbon black were produced using extrusion technique. As a polymer matrix the one type of block copolymer poly (styrene-b-ethylbutylene-b-styrene) belongs to thermoplastic elastomers materials was chosen. The thermal properties of composites were analyzed and the significant increase of degradation temperature after carbon black addition was observed. The obtained values of electrical conductivity of composites were analyzed taking dispersion of carbon black into account. It was shown that applied screws rotation leads to decreasing the size of carbon black agglomerates. Therefore, in the final composite there are just small clusters of filler distributed within whole polymer matrix. The highest electrical conductivity was equaled to 9.5·10-4 [S/m] and was achieved for composites with just 5wt. % of carbon black. However, such amount of nanofillers does not improve the mechanical properties of tested thermoplastic elastomer.
