Comparison of corrosion resistance of glass fiber reinforced composites and steels applicable for extraction pipes
Abstract
The aim of these tests was to compare the corrosion resistance of the two composite materials –GREandHDPEcomposites, withthisoftwosteelsoftenusedintheexploitation constructions –K55 and N80-l steels. Materials were examined in salt spray chamber with neutral environment.Thetestswerefollowedbyavisualevaluationofthecorrosionintensityand calculations of weight –loss. It was proved that the examined composites are resistant to corrosion inthemediacontainingchlorides. Itwasstatedthat compositesGREandHDPE areresistantto environmentalcontainingaggressiveions.Besides, theweightlossofsteelswasmuchhigher compare to weight loss of GRE and HDPE.It could be explained by the formation of oxides layer formed on the surface of steel which is not stable and as the results of the micro galvanic corrosion processes undergoes to the corrosion solution.
