Roll-to-Roll Printed Perovskite Solar Cells
Abstract
Organometal-trihalide perovskite solar cells are a promising third generation technology, with research cells demonstrating significant increases in power conversion efficiency recently. However, rapid progress has been made predominantly by a non-scalable process – spin coating. Here, we report fully slot-die coated perovskite solar cells, where slot-die coating is a fully scalable fabrication method. A mini slot-die coater has been developed based on a 3D printer platform. As the platform uses digitalized standard protocol, optimized processing conditions can be easily transferred from machine to machine and from lab to lab. With fully automated PC control, various printing conditions including x,y,z-positioning, coating speed, acceleration and temperature can be screened with minimum material consumption.Roll-to-roll compatible processes have been developed and the best fully printed perovskite solar cells on small glass substrates showed power conversion efficiencies up to 12%. The optimized process has been transferring to a larger-scale, roll-to-roll printer. Progress on ‘lab-to-fab’ translation will be presented.
