Smart materials applications to structural dynamics and rotating machines
Abstract
This paper surveys some of the recent work undertaken in the area of applications of shape memory alloys, SMAs, within structures and machines, specifically for the control of vibration. The paper presents some basic summary information about SMA modelling and then proceeds to discuss integration of SMAs within host structures, specifically glass and graphite epoxy composite structures, and also the design of bespoke bearing housings for the control of vibration in flexible rotors.
