Spray coated light emitting electrochemical cells on standard polyester cotton woven textiles
Abstract
A novel organic light emitting electrochemical cells (OLECs) on a standard woven polyester cotton textile has been fabricated. The textile substrate is presmoothed by screen printing the UV curable polyurethane layer, acting as the interface layer. Spray coating method is utilized to deposit all functional layers to demonstrate fully spray coated OLECs on textiles. Reference OLEC devices were fabricated on ITO glass substrates with the same process parameters. The devices have been encapsulated for testing in an ambient environment. The LECs on glass show the turn on voltage of 3V, brightness level of 200 cd/m2 and lifetime of more than 60 minutes. The preliminary results obtained from textile OLECs demonstrate a turn on voltage of 4V, 80 cd/m2 brightness level and achieved more than 30 minutes’ lifetime.
