Materials Map under construction

The Materials Map is still under development. In its current state, it is only based on one single data source and, thus, incomplete and contains duplicates. We are working on incorporating new open data sources like ORCID to improve the quality and the timeliness of our data. We will update Materials Map as soon as possible and kindly ask for your patience.

Effect of pre-damage on the seismic behaviour of FRP retrofitted sub-standard short columns

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an experimental study investigating the seismic behavior of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)-retrofitted shear-critical low-strength reinforced concrete (RC) short columns with or without moderate and heavy pre-damage. Towards this end, six nearly full-scale specimens were tested before and after retrofitting with FRP jackets designed to enhance the shear strength and ductility of the short columns. The test program included two reference specimens (without retrofit), two specimens retrofitted with FRP jacketing (without pre-damage) and two pre-damaged specimens, which were retrofitted with FRP jacketing after repairing. Comparisons are made between the test results considering the load carrying and deformation capacities of specimens as well as damage progression and failure mechanisms focusing on the effect of pre-damage on the structural performance.
