Fatigue Crack Propagation Behavior in Railway Steels
Abstract
Fatigue crack growth rates measurements tests according to the ASTM E647 standard are being performed in specimens taken from an AVE wheel and from a UIC60 rail. Three different load ratios were used in order to obtain an extended range of crack propagation for different types of loading observed in real operation. Results in the Paris law regime and near threshold will be presented. The adopted experimental methodologies will be presented and discussed.
