FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH TESTS IN RAILWAY WHEEL AND RAIL STEELS
Abstract
Compact tension specimens, C(T), taken from a Spanish AVE train wheel and a UIC60 rail were used to perform fatigue crack growth rate tests according to the ASTM E647-08 standard. These specimens had thickness B=13mm and width W=52mm and were tested in 0.1 and 0.4 R-ratios. Striation spacing measurements were also made on these specimens in order to evaluate if there is a correlation between fatigue crack growth rates and striation spacing in these two types of steels.
