Effect of Temperature on textural and structural behaviour of Al2O3-GeO2 and Al2O3-SnO2 sol-gel systems
Abstract
The paper reports results of the thermal study of the systems Al2O3-GeO2 and Al2O3-SnO2 of the molar composition 1:0.1 and 1:0.2 obtained by the sol-gel method and pure gamma-Al2O3 system. After the initial treatment in the oxidising atmosphere at 500°C their texture (low temperature nitrogen adsorption) and crystalline structure (XRD) have been determined. The binary systems have been also studied by the temperature programmed reduction TPR. The calcination was repeated at 600, 700, 800°C after each process the texture of the samples was studied. The samples were also subjected to XRD study. The aim of the studies was to establish the susceptibility of these systems to sintering in the context of their possible application as supports of highly dispersed metallic phase. After the low temperature (500°C) preliminary study both oxides used as modifiers of Al2O3 had similar effect on the final texture of the binary system, although in higher temperatures of calcination some differences between the effects of these oxides appeared.
