Continuous flux isothermal quenching of steel strips by immersion in molten lead maintained at 440°C
Abstract

The paper presents the experimental research results for continuous flux isothermal quenching of steel strips by immersion in molten lead maintained at 440°C. The steel used in the experiments has the chemical composition: 0.185% C, 1,350% Mn, and no significant quantities of other alloying elements; it was used as steel cold-rolled strips with a section of 0.8 x 19 mm in strain-hardened state. The thermally treated samples have a tensile strength of 770 MPa - similar to that of the raw material, an improved breaking elongation and a greatly improved resistance to alternate bending. The microstructure reveals a very fine bainite structure containing approximately 60% upper bainite and 40% lower bainite. The paper is focused on analyzing the behavior of the thermally treated samples at alternate bending.
