PM parts fast in-line x-ray digital radiography
Abstract

In-line inspection of Powder Metallurgy (PM) parts by X-ray imaging requires high-speed and high-resolution scanning features while working in an industrial environment, a challenging requirement that strongly limits the available options. We present our latest investigations in the development of low-cost X-ray imaging equipment based on Time Delay Integration (TDI)linear and flat panel X-ray detectors for inspection of PM parts. Excellent results have been obtained with the new systems which have recently been laboratory tested with various PM calibrated parts. Images obtained by X-ray of specially designed green and sintered specimens as well as some production parts are presented, emphasising the entire ability of our equipment for the application of fast detection of cracks, voids, density variation and geometrical analysis.
