A molecular thermodynamic model for potentiometric titration of poly-L-glutamic acid
Abstract
In this work, experimental titration curves of poly-L-giutamic acid are reported at two ionic strengths (0.1 and
0.5 M NaCI) at 25°C. A simple extension of the counterion condensation theory is proposed in order to
account for the pH-induced conformational transition. The model assumes a variable distance between titrable
sites in the charge induced transition from o-helix to extended coil structure. Calculations are in good
agreement with experimental results and show the right change of concavity in titration curves with respect to
models that assume constant distance between titrable sites.
