ZnO Nanostructured photo-catalytic films obtained by anodization and its application in the degradation of organic pollutants
Abstract
Photo-catalytic oxidation is an attractive technology for the removal of organic pollutants from water due to its simplicity, ease of implementation and reasonable cost. This project aims to exploit both the physical properties of ZnO and the advantages of nanostructured materials to develop ZnO photocatalytic nanostructured films for water purification. The study involves manufacturing of the ZnO films and testing their performance in the degradation of two organic compounds i.e. phenol and methyl orange, used as model reactants. The manufacturing technique, electrochemical anodization of zinc, allows controlling the morphology, wetting behaviour and photocatalytic activity of the resulting ZnO films.
