High speed videography of microvia formation and melt ejection
Abstract
<p>An investigation of the laser-material interaction process involved in laser drilling of alumina ceramic is presented. Using high speed videography in combination with a long distance microscope, a sequence of 68 still pictures has been generated in order to monitor the time-evolution of melt ejection and plasma formation processes in a study of single shot crater formation. The objective is to achieve improved understanding of the relevant laser-material interaction mechanisms as the basis for process optimisation.</p>
