The Materials Map is an open tool for improving networking and interdisciplinary exchange within materials research. It enables cross-database search for cooperation and network partners and discovering of the research landscape.

The dashboard provides detailed information about the selected scientist, e.g. publications. The dashboard can be filtered and shows the relationship to co-authors in different diagrams. In addition, a link is provided to find contact information.

Materials Map under construction

The Materials Map is still under development. In its current state, it is only based on one single data source and, thus, incomplete and contains duplicates. We are working on incorporating new open data sources like ORCID to improve the quality and the timeliness of our data. We will update Materials Map as soon as possible and kindly ask for your patience.

Abstract

A purely physical and long-lasting bacterial effect without any loss of material due to “organometallic molecular complexes [introducing] vibrations of the surface tension […], which influence the metabolism of the germs and kill them. […] This effect depends on the choice of involved materials and the resulting density of the different loads. The initial field test results were promising. Coatings with a small amount of antibacterial agent showed an improved antifoulingperformance compared to the reference coatings. However, only for one month. The reason for this was not what was expected. Contrary to the manufacturer's promise, the anti-bacterial agent didleach significant amounts of copper. The copper release was even higher than for a cuprous oxide reference coating. In conclusion, the mantra "Trust but verify“ resonates more than ever. Sometimes, substances get claimed to have a certain functionality but in-depth testing reveals that they have not. This specific example in fouling control illustrates this once again.
