Investigation of welding process gases for wire arc additive manufacturing of AL5183
Abstract
In welding, shielding gases are used to protect the molten metal from earths atmosphere which is especially relevant for highly reactive materials such as magnesium, titanium and aluminum. Process gases on the other hand are used to influence weld bead geometry, penetration depth and heat input during welding. In this work the influence in geometrie, defects, microstructure and mechanical properties are investigated.
