Time-frequency domain incipient fault detection with application to an aviation fuel system
Abstract

This paper concerns the holistic analysis of high frequency data for an aviation fuel distribution system with an aim to maximise the ability to detect incipient faults. Within a statistical framework, wavelet, Fourier and time-series analysis techniques are applied to the identification of candidate phenomena acting as early precursors to valve and fuel system failure. The focus of this paper is the detection of the incipient effects within the hydro-mechanical system of a fuel thermal stability rig, using high frequency data collected during an endurance testing programme.
