Sound absorption characteristics of palm oil male flower spikes fiber reinforced composite
Abstract
A study has been carried out to investigate the viability of palm oil male flower spikes(POMFS) fiber reinforced polyurethane composite to be implemented as soundabsorption panel. The composite panels were fabricated with increment of POMFS fiberweight percentage of 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt%, 20 wt% and 25 wt%. The samples werealso fabricated in three different thicknesses which are Smm, 25 mm and 35 mm. Theacoustics characteristics were investigated by using two microphones method for lowand high frequency. The physical characteristics of the composite such as density andporosity were also been tested. The samples were also tested for mechanicalcharacteristics with compressive test. The results demonstrate some potentialcharacteristics of palm oil male flower spikes fiber reinforced polyurethane to beimplemented as sound absorption panel.
