The evolution of coating properties and internal stress during ambient curing of a two-component epoxy coating
Abstract
This work focuses on the mechanical property evolution and the development of curing-induced internal stress within solvent-free EPON resin 862 (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F) cured with m-xylylenediamine (MXDA) epoxy coatings. The degree of conversion, storage shear modulus and curing-induced internal stress were monitored with ATR-FTIR, advanced rheometer and beam deflection method, respectively. In addition, to predict the conversion and mechanical property evolution of the epoxy coatings during the curing processs, a modelling approach, based on curing time and degree of conversion, was proposed. Simulations were found to agree well with the experimental results.
