Development of Infrared-Sensor for Detecting Water Pollution Based on Selenide Waveguide
Abstract
Mid-infrared range (4000-400 cm(-1)) contains the absorption bands related to the vibrations of organic molecules and infrared spectroscopy became a suitable tool for chemical sensing applications. The aims of this study were to synthetize chalcogenide thin films for developing mid-IR optical integrated platforms and perform their functionalization by polymers in order to increase the sensor sensitivity and selectivity. Thus, an optical waveguide in chalcogenide glasses was synthesized and studies of polymer functionalization were carried out. Hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene and the three xylene isomers) were detected at low concentrations (25 ppb) in complex matrices and the infrared sensor regeneration and durability were demonstrated.
