Strain localization in nano-crystalline iron processed by severe plastic deformation
Abstract
<p>In the present work technically pure iron was subjected to severe plastic deformation (SPD) by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) which brought about a significant refinement of microstructure. Characteristic non-homogeneous, banded structure was observed at micro- and macro-scale. Tensile tests of ECAP material were carried out using special micro-samples. The fracture surface observations reveal that failure mode depends on microstructure banding. Plastic deformation of the specimens has also been modelled by finite element method (FEM).</p>
