Crystallization kinetics of Al-Mm-Ni-(Co,Fe) alloys
Abstract
<p>Crystallization process has been studied for Al-Mm-Ni-(Co,Fe), where Mm indicates mischmetal. amorphous alloy series. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to characterize the different transformation stages of the devitrification process. X-ray diffraction was applied to characterize the microstructure after each transformation stage. Nanocrystallization kinetics was studied in terms of activation energy and Avrami exponent. Nanocrystalline microstructure appears during the first transformation stage detected by DSC, with D = 15-20 nm and Vcr = 0.5-0.8. After full crystallization the final phases detected are: α-Al, orthorhombic Al11Mm 3 and orthorhombic Al3Ni. Activation energy of nanocrystallization ranges from 1.5 to 2.7 eV. The values of n at the early (Gao-Wang) and final (constant value in Ozawa) stages of nanocrystallization are obtained: n decreases from 1-1.5 to 0.5.</p>
