Layer-by-layer Printed Dielectrics
Abstract

Improving power electronics performance is an important part of the green transition, and central to this is the metallised film capacitor. Industry needs film capacitors that are smaller and can retain their reliability at higher temperatures. One possibility is to dope the polypropylene dielectric with nanoparticles to form a nanocomposite with better dielectric properties. We present our approach to achieve well dispersed nanocomposite dielectrics that can easily be printed at room temperature using a novel layer-by-layer process which can be scaled to industrial production. The resulting capacitors exhibit improved capacitance with no loss of reliability or breakdown performance.
