Experimental study and thermal mechanical modelling for alumina
Abstract
Microwave sintering allows to heat and densify ceramic materials, like alumina Al2O3, very quickly (≤ 30min). However, the phenomena involved are still poorly understood, and the measurement techniques only allow access to the surface temperature. In order to predict the properties of the final material, thermal modelling under Matlab and mechanical modelling under Abaqus are developped and then coupled. They allow to estimate the temperature field and the evolution of the density inside the sample.
