Materials Map under construction

The Materials Map is still under development. In its current state, it is only based on one single data source and, thus, incomplete and contains duplicates. We are working on incorporating new open data sources like ORCID to improve the quality and the timeliness of our data. We will update Materials Map as soon as possible and kindly ask for your patience.

Abstract

The corrosion inhibition effect of the drug reducer polyacrylamide (PAM) on carbon steel (K-55) in simulated fracturing fluid (0.3 M of KCl and 0.2 wt. % of PAM with pH 7.8) under static and hydrodynamic conditions was studied. The electrochemical experimental results indicated that the carbon steel show active dissolution behaviour in the absence and the presence of the inhibitor PAM. However, PAM acting as mixed-type inhibitor was able to promote the formation of a product layer on the metal’s surface, lowering both cathodic and anodic current density. For long exposure times, the corrosion activity of the metal increases, as result of the breakdown of the corrosion product layer and initiation of localised corrosion spots. Furthermore, it was observed that under hydrodynamic conditions PAM was not only able to promote the formation of a protective layer on the meal surface but also it was able to influence the flow dynamic properties of solution by decreasing the friction (wall shearstress) between the metal’s surface and fl owing media, thus reducing the risk of flow induced localized corrosion.
