Optical transceivers for interconnections in satellite payloads
Abstract
The increasing data rates and processing on boardsatellites call for the use of photonic interconnectsproviding high-bitrate performance as well as valuablesavings in mass and volume. Therefore, opticaltransmitter and receiver technology is developed foraerospace applications. The metal-ceramic-packaging withhermetic fiber pigtails enables robustness for the harshspacecraft environment, while the 850-nm VCSEL-basedtransceiver technology meets the high bit-rate and lowpower requirements. The developed components include 6Gbps SpaceFibre duplex transceivers for intra-satellitedata links and 40 Gbps parallel optical transceivers forboard-to-board interconnects. Also, integration conceptof interchip optical interconnects for onboard processorICs is presented.
