Polarization effects in stretchable metasurfaces for THz frequency range
Abstract

In this paper we study unusual optical properties of a metasurface composed of two orthogonal metal strips located on both sides of a thin polymer film. Combination of strong electric and magnetic dipolar resonances leads to resonance for both co- and cross-polarizations in the range of 150-250 GHz. Elasticity of the polymer carrier allows mechanical stretching of the structure that implies the strong variation of the ratio between co- and cross components. Strong dependence of the polarization of the reflected field on the applied mechanical strain opens the door toward prospective optical strain gauges much simpler in the implementation than the available ones.
