The Calibration-Free Method for Determining Dielectric Permittivity Spectrum
Abstract
The work presents a proof-of-concept method for determining the complex dielectric permittivity spectrum based only on electro-magnetic (EM) numerical simulations. The presented method uses a finite number of EM simulations allowing to link the obtained scattering parameters of an electric port with the set values of the complex dielectric permittivity of the material. For a selected signal frequency, a map is created from all obtained simulations that allows calculating dielectric permittivity of an unknown material from its scattering parameter. Extension of this approach to other signal frequencies results in a determination of the dielectric permittivity spectrum. Inorder to verify the method, an EM simulation was performedfor the dispersion material described by the Debye model. The result in the form of scattering parameters was processedinto the dielectric permittivity spectrum and compared to theinput spectrum. The obtained results confirm the validity of the proposed method.
