Materials Map under construction

The Materials Map is still under development. In its current state, it is only based on one single data source and, thus, incomplete and contains duplicates. We are working on incorporating new open data sources like ORCID to improve the quality and the timeliness of our data. We will update Materials Map as soon as possible and kindly ask for your patience.

Abstract

Soil complex dielectric permittivity spectrum dependsmainly on soil volumetric water content and salinity, but other soil properties such as temperature, density and claycontent can also significantly impact its dielectric properties.Especially, the influence of soil salinity and texture can havesignificant impact on the accuracy of moisture determinationwith the use of soil moisture-dielectric permittivity calibrationcurves. The paper deals with the impact of soil salinity on thereal part of complex dielectric permittivity of soils of varioustexture. Soil samples of various moisture content and salinitywere measured with the use of a coaxial transmission-line cellconnected to a one-port vector-network-analyzer in the 0.01–3GHz frequency range. The relations between soil moisture andthe real part of dielectric permittivity at frequencies of 30, 70,150, 200, 500 and 1000 MHz were examined and the frequencybands with the smallest impact of soil salinity and particle-sizedistribution were obtained. For the tested soils it occurred thatthe optimal frequency bands were located between 150 and 500MHz.
