Rubidium tetrafluoridobromate(III): redetermination of the crystal structure from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data

Abstract

<jats:p>Single crystals of rubidium tetrafluoridobromate(III), RbBrF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>, were grown by melting and recrystallizing RbBrF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> from its melt. This is the first determination of the crystal structure of RbBrF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> using single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. We confirmed that the structure contains square-planar [BrF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>]<jats:sup>−</jats:sup> anions and rubidium cations that are coordinated by F atoms in a square-antiprismatic manner. The compound crystallizes in the KBrF<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> structure type. Atomic coordinates and bond lengths and angles were determined with higher precision than in a previous report based on powder X-ray diffraction data [Ivlev <jats:italic>et al.</jats:italic> (2015). <jats:italic>Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem.</jats:italic><jats:bold>641</jats:bold>, 2593–2598].</jats:p>
