Mixed Mode (I plus II) Fatigue Crack Paths in S355J0 Steel in Terms of Fractal Geometry
Abstract
In the paper, experimental results of fatigue crack growth were presented. The main object of authors' investigation was a fatigue crack path determined under mixed mode (I+II) loading condition. For this purpose the CTS (compact tension shear) specimens were used. The tests were performed under the load ratio R = 0.1 and constant amplitude loading for a different mixity level. An experimental results were described using Delta K stress intensity factor range. In the paper, the experimental procedure was described and the kinetic fatigue fracture diagrams were constructed. After the fatigue tests the fractal dimension for the fracture surface was determined. According to the obtained results, the fractal dimension is not sensitive for different mixity level of loading (I+II) for structural steel S355J0.
