Unique morphologies of boron nitride nanotubes

Abstract

<p>A study of the unusual morphological features of boron nitride nanotubes was performed using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The nanotubes were produced using metal-oxide promoted high-temperature synthesis from carbon nanotubes, boron oxide and nitrogen. The unmatched morphological features detected were open tube ends, preference of limited and even number of layers and predominant occurrence of even number of tubular shells over odd number of shells.</p>
