Modelling of nonlinear wooden columns reinforced by carbon fiber
Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to develop a numerical methodology to predict the local behavior of a process which consists of reinforcing wooden columns with carbon fiber. Particularly, we are interested in studying the elasto-plastic behavior of wood material with the effect of reinforcement. A model based on the thermodynamics of irreversible processes with state variables is used to translate the coupling between the isotropic hardening plastic behavior and the effect of reinforcement. The theoretical and numerical aspects of this formulation are described in detail. Solving the global equilibrium problem is ensured by a Dynamic Explicit scheme. The calculation procedure implemented in ABAQUS/Explicit is validated by using a simulation of the compression test of circular wooden carbon fiber reinforced specimens. The simulation results are compared with the experimental ones.
