Microwave-assisted syntheis of highly crystalline, multifunctional iron oxide nanocomposites for imaging applications
Abstract
We report a single-step approach using a microwave-assisted method for a multifunctional magnetic nanocomposite comprising superparamagnetic iron oxide cores, a polyelectrolyte stabilizer and an organic dye with no requirement for post-processing.We demonstrate the intimate link between synthetic methodology (microwave heating with polyelectrolyte stabilizer) and resulting properties (particle size, shape, magnetism) and how this underpins the functionality of the resulting nanocomposites.
