Abstract
Corrosionandprecipitationofcorrosionproductsatanelectrodeofanelectro-magneticflowmeterandinanarrowchannelofanelectro-magneticpump(EMP)forleadbismuth(Pb-Bi)flowwasinvestigatedbymeansofmetallurgicalanalysis.TheroughenedsurfaceofinletpumpcoreattheentranceofEMPflowchannelwasobserved,whichindicatedtheoccurrenceoftheso-calledcorrosion/erosion.Inthesametime,corrosionproductswereprecipitatedonthesurfaceoftheelectrodeandtheoutletpumpcore.Localizedcorrosion/erosionandprecipitationof corrosion productswere observed bymeans of SEM/EDXanalysisfortheircrosssections.Thesurface condition wasdifferent fromeachother depending ontheplace.Theprecipitationproductsweremadeofdouble-layers,thatis,anouterlayerandaninnerlayer.Theinnerlayer(diameter rangeof 0-20~tm)containedFeinthefractionof99wt%,andtheouterlayer(diameterrangeof20-40~tm) containedPb-Biinthefractionof10wt%.Thedoublelayerstructuremightbecausedbydifference of precipitationperiod.Theselumpsof theprecipitationproductscouldbethecause ofthechannelplugging.
