Green and facile decoration of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on reduced graphene oxide
Abstract
This work demonstrates the fabrication of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) abbreviated as Fe(3)O(4)RGO nanocomposite by a green and facile method. In this work, first we synthesized the small sized uniformly dispersed Fe3O4 NPs by high-temperature solution phase reaction of iron (III) acetylacetonate, Fe (acac) 3. The formation of magnetite phase (Fe3O4) was confirmed by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The surface morphology and size of Fe3O4 NPs were evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Then, Fe3O4 NPs were dispersed with graphene oxide (GO) under reducing condition of citric acid and L-ascorbic acid. The dispersion of Fe3O4 NPs with RGO was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques, both showing the well intercalation and decoration of Fe3O4 NPs with graphene sheets.
