The impact of the fiber volume fraction on the fatigue performance of glass fiber composites
Abstract
The dependency of the fatigue resistance on the fiber volume fraction of a non-crimp glass fiber fabric reinforced polyester polymer matrix composite is investigated, in the range of 55% to 60% fiber volume. The experimental investigation cover tension-tension, tension-compression, and compression-compression cyclic loading cases. Both an overall and local fiber volume fraction are considered. It is observed that the high fiber volume fraction cases also have higher porosity densities. The tension-tension fatigue loading is found to be most dependent on the fiber volume fraction, while the compression-compression load case is found to have the least dependency.
