Ultra-low surface energy polymers
Abstract

The molecular design requirements for the synthesis of polymeric materials that can be used for the fabrication of readily accesible film structures with ultra-low surface energy characteristics are described. Considerable research efforts are directed towards the develoment of alternative, non-wettable, low surface energy polymeric materials with good film-forming characteristics. The impetus for such activities is provided by commercial applications in aerospace, lithography, clothing, and integrated sensor, and by the need for environmentally friendly protection against biological and other fouling.
