Bioinspired Functionalized Nanoparticles as Tools for Detection, Quantification and Targeting of Biomolecules
Abstract
Nanoparticles and nanomaterials in general offer an enormous possibility of applications in biomedicine, proteomics, drug delivery, health-environmental sciences, and in therapeutic/diagnosis approaches. These materials combine large surfaces with unique optic and electronic properties. When a nanoparticle is functionalized with bioorganic molecules such as amino acids, peptides, proteins, neurotransmitters, and so on the system becomes a bioinspired nanomaterial. In the present chapter we focus on the applications of gold, silver, palladium, silica, ferrite, diamonds, and alloy nanoparticles for biomedical, medicinal, environmental, and/or proteomics fields in the last five years. © 2015 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
