Properties of alumina – graphene oxide composites
Abstract
Al2O3-x%wt.GnO (where x = 0.5/ 1/ 2) composites were produced with the use of powder metallurgy methods. The consolidationof sinters was carried out with Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method to provide high density at the low sintering temperature.Lowering the sintering temperature and time (in comparison to conventional sintering methods) limits the grain growth of aalumina ceramic matrix. This fact is extremely important as it has an impact on hardness of produced composites.In this work a mechanical properties of alumina – graphene oxide composites were examined. Produced sinters are characterized with high relative density (>97.9%) and Vickers hardness (>1850 HV5). The Young’s modulus and KIC coefficient were examined. Observations of composites microstructure revealed a good connection between graphene oxide and alumina matrix.
